“Six suspected members of Revolutionary Struggle, jailed in April pending trial for a string of bombings and shootings believed to have been carried out by the militant group since 2003, are to answer to three new charges today and tomorrow.
The two investigating magistrates probing the organization’s activities, which have caused widespread damage but no deaths, yesterday summoned the six suspects to defend themselves on one criminal charge and two misdemeanors.
A few weeks after their arrest in April, Nikos Maziotis, the group’s alleged mastermind, his partner Panayiota Roupa and Costas Gournas, who allegedly managed the organization’s money, wrote a letter to the leftist Pontiki weekly, admitting to their role in the attacks. The other three suspects – Sarantos Nikitopoulos, Vangelis Stathopoulos and Christoforos Kortesis – have denied any role in the group’s activities.
All six suspects have refused to give DNA samples to police, who are aiming to link them to evidence taken from the group’s hideouts.”
